1 person is dead following a single vehicle crash south of Rochelle this morning. The accident took place a short time before 5:30 on Illinois 251 South, just south of the Rochelle Municipal Airport.
Reports indicate that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Illinois 251 South when it left the highway. The car then struck Gurler Road and became airborne before it crashed.
A passenger in the vehicle was located south of the accident at a gas station in Rochelle. He was transported by ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The person who suffered fatal injuries was pronounced dead at the scene. The name has not been released at this time from area officials. Rochelle police are investigating the crash along with the Illinois State Police and Lee County Sheriff's Police.
