168 million dollar mistake for the Illinois Department of Revenue

As reported yesterday, local governments along with school, park and fire-protection districts across the state are trying to figure out how they repay the state of Illinois after a 168 million dollar mistake.

The Illinois Department of Revenue says it mistakenly sent 168 million dollars in overpayments. The money came from a personal property tax replacement fund in 2014 and 2015.

Locally the following cities, counties, along with school and park districts need to refund the state.

**Cities: Rochelle $30,026
Oregon $8,912
Byron $3,414

**Counties: Ogle $50,701
Lee $56,220

**School Districts: Rochelle Township High School $89,014
Rochelle Elementary District $88,573
Oregon School District $93,621
Byron School District $32,187
Meridian School District $29,691
AFC School District $20,990
Eswood School District $4,585

**Park District: Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District $9,661

The state plans to work with the taxing bodies on a repayment plan that will spread the payments over an extended period of time.
